Internal security is a move towards upholding peace within the boundaries of a nation by keeping internal security threats at bay and upholding national law. It is of vital importance in today’s scenario, as nations all over the world in Africa, Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent are battling internal security threats and violence. Emergence of ISIS and other terrorist groups in Pakistan has totally shocked the world and many countries have been caught unprepared to tackle its menace. Iraq is one country that is worst hit by the ISIS.

Internal Security – A Menace

Internal security has to be cautious not only of conventional threats like terrorist organizations but also of various unconventional threats like those of cyber terrorism, biological warfare etc. Cyber terrorism is politically motivated use of computers and Information Technology to cause severe disruption or widespread fear within a country. Cyber terrorism is an area of threat that many countries discount and end up paying a heavy price for it. In today’s world where everything is digital and with the advent of cryptocurrency in the world, a specified and well-directed attack could cripple an economy both financially and socially. In 2007, Estonia was a target of a major attack on its network, a denial of service attack where all the activities related to the internet where crippled for three weeks.

Supply of fake currency notes are one of the most common ways to upset internal security by foreign powers. In order to stop the fake currency flow in Pakistan and other Indian destructive/terrorist groups, e.g. Naxalite–Maoist, which is used by terrorists to buy destructive armors and attack parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast and Central Indian states, the Indian Government introduced demonetization to stop the flow of fake currencies across the borders.

In the current scenario, nations are taking proactive measures to beef up their internal security. One of the fastest growing markets is the Indian internal security market, which is expected to cross the USD 20 billion mark by 2020. The US remains the world's largest spender on homeland security; in the financial year 2015-16 budget, the allocation for homeland security by the US was a considerable USD 38.2 billion. Israel is said to have the best internal security solutions in the world and is exporting its solutions to countries like India. Thus, we can see that nations are not taking internal security threats lightly and are making massive purchases, which presents huge opportunities for equipment providers, both big and small. The global internal security market is expected to reach overUSD 650 billion by 2023, while growing at a CAGR of 6.13% during this period (2018 - 2023).
