Top bins: Population growth is driving revenue upwards as increased recycling drains demand
Enviro (NZ) Limited and Waste Management Limited dominate the industry. The two companies are also major players in other New Zealand waste industries. Vertical integration lets these large firms collect and dispose of waste in a cost-efficient manner, reducing overheads and allowing them to charge lower prices to end users. The two major players have ongoing contracts with local councils, businesses and industrial firms for collection and disposal, which makes it difficult for new players to gain market share. These characteristics elevate average profit margins for larger waste treatment and disposal firms.
Industry operators primarily treat and dispose of solid, liquid, hazardous and other wastes. Firms that operate landfills, combustors, incinerators and other treatment facilities are also included in the industry. Sewage treatment facilities are excluded from the industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry's key players and their market shares.
