Up in flames: The COVID-19 outbreak has significantly reduced industry revenue
Oil and gas producers in New Zealand supply crude oil for export markets, or natural gas for domestic industrial, commercial and residential users. New Zealand's oil and gas extraction primarily takes place in the Taranaki Basin, in the Taranaki region. The industry's small size on a global scale and concentration in one geographic area makes it feasible for a small number of firms to hold a large share of the market. As a result, the industry's major players, Todd Energy, OMV, Greymouth and Beach Energy, account for a significant share of industry revenue.
Industry players extract gas and oil from deposits to produce crude oil or natural gas. The industry excludes firms that refine crude oil into petroleum-based products.
