Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in the market is increased use of wide bandgap materials. Wide bandgap materials have been considered as the next-generation semiconductor materials due to their properties such as high breakdown voltage and operability at high temperatures and frequencies at a smaller size than conventionally used silicon.”.

According to the report, one driver in the market is increased adoption of renewable energy. The Renewable Energy growth program initiated by the US Department of Energy in 2015, got an extension till 2029. This program aims at producing 40 MW of combined renewable energy per year up to 2029, which includes solar, wind, hydropower, and anaerobic digestion projects.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is technological limitations. Power semiconductor devices are predominantly based on silicon wafers. IGBTs, power MOSEFETs, and super-junction power MOSFETs are devices that are extensively used for high-and low-voltage applications, owing to their configurations.
