Thermal Hydraulics Aspects of Liquid Metal cooled Nuclear Reactors is a comprehensive collection of liquid metal thermal hydraulics research and development for nuclear liquid metal reactor applications. A deliverable of the SESAME H2020 project, this book is written by top European experts who discuss topics of note that are supplemented by an international contribution from U.S. partners within the framework of the NEAMS program under the U.S. DOE. This book is a convenient source for students, professionals and academics interested in liquid metal thermal hydraulics in nuclear applications. In addition, it will also help newcomers become familiar with current techniques and knowledge.

Authors

Ferry Roelofs NRG, Research and Innovation EU H2020 SESAME Project Proposal Manager and Vice Chair, SESAME Project Management Board.. Ferry Roelofs is account manager research at NRG in the Netherlands. He is known as an expert in nuclear thermal hydraulics (specifically Computational Fluid Dynamics) and as such performed simulations on various generations of nuclear reactors (Generation II, III and IV). He has been working in the nuclear field since 1997. Apart from being active in the thermal hydraulics field, he has also been seconded at the Dutch nuclear power plant of Borssele assisting the update of safety specifications and providing engineering support to the second large modification project at the plant. Furthermore, he performed nuclear fuel cycle analyses to study the impact of future nuclear power generation on availability of uranium resources, size of the reactor park, final storages, and human resource requirements at a European level. Finally, he has also been involved in the design review of the future PALLAS reactor aiming at medical isotope production and nuclear research. Since the year 2000, he has been actively involved in design and safety support of various liquid metal cooled reactors. As such, he initiated in 2015 a European collaborative project 'thermal hydraulics Simulations and Experiments for the Safety Assessment of Metal cooled reactors (SESAME)' which is sponsored by the European Commission. The textbook 'Thermal Hydraulics Aspects of Liquid Metal cooled Nuclear Reactors' is one of the major outcomes of this project. Ir. Roelofs published about 200 scientific articles, many of which deal with SESAME related subjects.
