Overview:
This webinar provides an overview of recent developments in the Rorschach Inkblot method, specifically in terms of (a) its current research base, (b) comparison between the Comprehensive System and the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS), and (c) considerations in selecting appropriate normative data.

The webinar will provide a brief review of several aspects of contemporary Rorschach research, including interrater and test-retest reliability, as well as validity.

In addition, you may be unsure about the specific differences between Exner's Comprehensive System (CS) and R-PAS. This webinar will detail several key differences between these two Rorschach systems and the implications of these differences.

Selection of appropriate normative data is crucial for interpreting Rorschach results. Without normative data, clinicians and researchers are unable to determine whether the results of a particular Rorschach variable are considered to be within normal limits, higher than expected, or lower than expected. There are several norms available for Exner's Comprehensive System, as well as norms for R-PAS.

A number of considerations will be reviewed in deciding which norms to use and how to use them once a particular set of norms have been selected. Even if one selects one of the available norms for Exner's comprehensive system, a number of options are available in selecting appropriate cutoff scores. In addition, two sets of normative data have recently been presented by Choca and colleagues, making the selection of norms a thorny issue for practitioners and researchers. This webinar will provide an overview of the relevant issues to consider in selecting normative data for interpretive purposes.

Why should you Attend: Do you have questions about the research foundation for the Rorschach? Specifically, you may be wondering whether the Rorschach's reliability, validity, and normative meet rigorous standards for psychological testing.

Are you interested in learning about the primary Rorschach systems used in contemporary clinical work? There are two primary systems currently in use: (a) Exner's Comprehensive System (CS) , and (b) the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS). In addition, Choca and colleagues have recently presented a "Basic Rorschach" system.

Are you confused about which normative data you should use in interpreting Rorschach protocols of your patients? There are several options, including the ones that are used in Exner's (2000; 2003) interpretive guidelines, the "International Norms," and R-PAS norms. In addition, Choca and colleagues have recently provided alternative sets of norms, one of which is based on non-patient data and the other which is based on a psychiatric sample.

This webinar provides an overview that addresses these questions.

Areas Covered in the Session:

Reliability and validity of the Rorschach
Options in selecting normative data for interpretation of the Rorschach
Similarities and differences of the Comprehensive System and the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS)
