Hexagonal boron nitride has witnessed an increase in demand from the electronics sector in the past few years. This is majorly owing to the superior properties offered by it, such as thermal stability and good dielectric properties due to which it is gaining preference in the electronics sector. Additionally, it offers properties, such as high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, thermal shock resistance, and high electrical resistance. Hexagonal boron nitride finds usage in skin care, hair care, make-up, and others. In cosmetics, hexagonal boron nitride functions as a slip modifier. The highest concentration of use is in eyeshadow formulations. Products containing hexagonal boron nitride are also used on the baby skin (in a lotion, oil, powder, or cream), can be applied to the eye area or mucous membranes, and possibly be ingested or inhaled. Boron nitride is reported to be used at up to 25% in eye product formulations, at 2% in lipstick formulations, up to 16% in powders, and at up to 0.9% in fragrance preparations. In practice, 95-99% of the particles released from cosmetic sprays have aerodynamic equivalent diameters in the 10 to 110 µm range. Therefore, most particles incidentally inhaled from these sprays are deposited in the nasopharyngeal region and are not respirable. Hence, the demand for hexagonal boron nitride from this application segment is estimated to grow at a healthy rate, over the forecast period.
Asia-Pacific to Witness Strong Growth
Asia-Pacific dominated the market for hexagonal boron nitride in 2017. The region is also projected to witness the fastest growth during the forecast period majorly due to the increasing electrical & electronics production in the region. In Asia-Pacific, China is expected to witness strong growth in the demand for hexagonal boron nitride, owing to the favourable government support to electrical & electronics industry to increase production.
