This course provides an introduction to the concepts and techniques that are common to the various generations of mobile network.
It is suggested this course is studied as preparation for the other PTT courses covering specific generations of mobile system such as GSM, UMTS and LTE.
The course begins by exploring the difference between mobility and nomadic operation and the role of location services. The role of each of the basic components of a mobile system is described and the role of authentication, authorisation and accounting systems explored. Concepts such as cells, handover and roaming are explained. The capabilities and applications of various types of radio system are compared, as are the various generations of mobile system.
This course introduces concepts which are used in most types of mobile systems, like handover and roaming, and cellular traffic handling. The course also reviews the various generations and types of mobile system.
You will get the most out of this course if you already have a basic understanding of basic telecommunication concepts such as modulation, multiplexing and the em spectrum. The PTT online course SRB: "Transmission fundamentals" provides the information you need.

This e-learning course is designed for those who are, or intend to be, involved in the planning, installation, provisioning or maintenance of mobile systems. It is suggested this course is studied as preparation for the other courses in the PTT Mobile suite.
