The market for blowing agents is expected to register a significant growth during the forecast period, 2018 to 2023.This significant growth is primarily driven by the growing demand for polymeric insulation foams for buildings, automotives and appliances.

Rise in Demand for Polymeric Insulation Foams for Buildings, Automotives and Appliances
Rigid Polymeric Foams have been used primarily for thermal insulation applications of the types required for appliances, transport and in buildings. Foams for the thermal insulation of buildings are based on three families of polymers: polystyrenes (EPS bead foam and XPS extruded foam), polyurethanes, and polyolefin. The regulations covering thermal insulation performance and energy efficiency in building and construction are tightening all around the world. As a result, we are witnessing an increase in the use of high quality insulating products in the overall building stock and an increase in the amount of insulation needed per building. In 2017, polymer foams have a 55% share of the market for insulation materials in building and construction. In Asia-Pacific, polymer foams are especially dominant, with a market share of about 70%. In addition, the amount of insulation used per unit has also tended to increase as energy standards for appliances have been raised. Thus, expanding insulation foam market is fuelling the demand for blowing agents market and also poses a potential to propel the growth in the nearby future.

HYDROFLUOROCARBONS (HFCs) Segment to Dominate the Blowing Agents Market
HFCs have been under consideration as replacements for HCFCs since the early 1990s. More recently, the development and commercialization of HFC-245fa and HFC-365mfc has enabled a wider range of processes to be encompassed by HFC technologies. The adoption of HFCs will only occur in the larger board stock or continuously-produced sandwich panel sectors, where the end product has to meet very stringent flammability specifications. The use of HFCs (particularly HFC-365mfc/HFC-227ea blends) is expected continue in a significant proportion of the phenolic foam market for the foreseeable future, particularly if fire performance standards continue to become more stringent (currently the case in Europe). However, chemical companies and manufacturers are working on replacing HFCs with more climate-friendly alternative blowing agents which will diminish the market demand for global blowing agents market in the coming years.

Asia-Pacific to Dominate the Blowing Agents Market
Asia-Pacific represents the largest regional market for global blowing agents market in 2017. This immense demand for blowing agents is a consequence of the growing construction, automotive an appliances industry in the region. The growing construction industries in the countries like China, Japan, India and South Korea is driving the demand for insulation foam market which in turn created the demand for blowing agents market. In addition, appliances industry in the countries like Japan and South Korea countries have further augmented the demand for the blowing agents market. The large market size coupled with the huge growth of Asia-Pacific is quite instrumental in expansion of the global blowing agents market.

Key Developments in the Blowing Agents Market
August 2017: Honeywell announced that TCL Corporation, one of China's largest manufacturers of appliances and electronics, is using Honeywell's Solstice Liquid Blowing Agent (LBA) in its refrigerator insulation to increase energy efficiency and further reduce climate impact.
April 2017: Honeywell announced that Demilec, one of North America's largest manufacturers of spray foam insulation, has introduced a new product formulated with Honeywell's Solstice Liquid Blowing Agent.
