This edition of the Energy and Power Systems TechVision Opportunity Engine (TOE) focuses on developments in compressed air energy storage, marine electrification, wind turbine monitoring, thermal energy storage. Each of these innovations and profiles address a key challenge in each of these sectors. The slag-based molten energy storage innovation for instance focuses on the making the steel industry more energy efficient and thermal energy storage more cost-effective. Similarly, the hybrid electric propulsion focuses on reducing emissions due to vessels and make the marine sector more efficient in fuel usage. This will be particularly useful given the stringent regulations imposed by IMO for emissions reduction.

The TOE also covers innovations in smart energy management and wind turbines inspection.
