VIETNAM PAPER AND PAPER INDUSTRY
According to data published by the Global Pulp and Paper Council, the global pulp consumption reached x.xx million tons in March 2019. The mass investment in new production lines in the period of 2016-2019 forecasts a boom in the supply of pulp in the future market.
The paper industry was born quite early in Vietnam, in 1912. In the past few years, the paper industry has grown steadily but relatively slowly, failing to meet the domestic demand for quality and quantity. The paper production in the first 3 months of the year increased 32% over the same period due to the gradually more stable supply of pulp than previous years.
In the period of 2011-2018, the paper consumption of all kinds in Vietnam market increased rapidly with an average annual growth rate of 9.8%. In the first 3 months of 2019, thanks to a good growth in paper production, the paper consumption also grew positively, estimated to increase by 15.5% compared to the same period last year. The group of packaging paper grew strongly, the total consumption of packaging paper in Vietnam in 3 months of 2019 accounted for 77.2% of the total paper consumption of all kinds, up 20.0% over the previous year.
Currently, Vietnam paper industry is still primarily serving the domestic market, and the exports are very few. Vietnam's total paper export turnover continuously grew in the period 2011-2018 with a CAGR of 13.0%. The export turnover of paper and paper products in Q1/2019 rose 8.5% over the same period in 2018.
