  • The IPS was launched by the National Bank of Kazakhstan in June 2022. The service facilitates instant fund transfers between accounts at participating banks and financial institutions in Kazakhstan within seconds. This system allows users to make instant fund transfers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. It allows P2P for consumer to business and business to business transfers, as well as mobile numbers and payment by request. The maximum limit for a single transaction is KZT500,000 ($1,090.17). As of February 2025, 12 banks and financial institutions support the IPS.

For instance, in May 2025, the China-based ecommerce platform Tabao launched its platform in Kazakhstan. Similarly, in November 2024, the Chinese ecommerce platforms Temu and Pinduoduo launched their services in the country. In December 2024, the new domestic online shop Teez launched in the country. In June 2024, Kazpost partnered with the Chinese company YTO Express Co, opening warehouses in Almaty, Turkestan, and Aktobe to simplify the process of delivering goods to customers. According to the Digital Kazakhstan Association, ecommerce comprised 12.6% in 2023 (8.2% in 2022) of total retail sales. The number of ecommerce purchases reached 90.2 million in 2023; an increase of 84% from 2022.
  • Digital banking is gaining momentum in Kazakhstan. Kaspi’s Super App is one of the most-popular mobile banking apps in Kazakhstan, with an average of 14 million monthly active users. The app enables users to perform multiple types of payments, including in-store and online purchases, bill payments, and P2P transfers. It also allows users to access their bank accounts and apply for loans. This suggests a growing trend for the future of mobile payments, as users increasingly prioritize convenience, efficiency, and security in their transactions. According to Central Bank statistics, 155 million payment transactions-worth KZT1.94 trillion ($4.23 billion)-were carried out in 2024 via internet and cell phone, compared to 108.9 million transactions-worth KZT1.35 trillion ($2.94 billion)-in 2023.
