The report presents data from 100 academic library directors, deans, and provosts about how they view their library’s information literacy efforts. The study presents commentary on how library leadership views the future of their information literacy programs, and what are their programs’ greatest strengths and deficiencies – what have been their best and most problematic policies. The report also gives highly detailed numeric data on how committed library leadership believes that their university management is to information literacy and how well their information literacy staff is able to assess information literacy performance and its progress in the student population.
This 47-page study also gives insights into how much the information literacy workload has changed in recent years, and how programs go about evaluating their own progress.
Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:
- 16.64 percent of their library’s information literacy tutorials were from or largely derived from those of other libraries with a range from a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 100 percent.
- 44% of survey respondents felt that the information literacy workload at their institutions had increased significantly in the past two years.
- Older survey respondents were much more likely than younger ones to have high regard for students’ information literacy skill levels.
- Data in the report is broken out by many variables, including college type, enrollment, and level of tuition, among other variables.
