Rising water: Industry revenue is expected to rise in 2023 as the population continues to expand
Irish Water dominates the industry, providing water and wastewater services to households and businesses. Domestic charges are funded by government subvention revenue, which is raised every year as more households are supplied with water. Revenue is forecast to expand at a compound annual rate of 8.1% to €1 billion over the past five years, including revenue growth of 6.4% in 2023, when the average profit margin will reach 23.2%.
Firms in the industry collect, treat and distribute water to domestic and non-domestic customers. Water is collected from Irish territorial waters and is then put through a treatment process before being supplied to households.
