    Report

  • 100 Pages
  • May 2020
  • Region: Global
  • Primary Research Group
  • ID: 5050688

The report looks closely at how academic advising departments have adjusted to the pandemic and how they are helping students to confront its consequences.  Data and commentary in the report is sourced from 41 colleges and universities in the USA.  The study compares the number of students currently served vs. the number in the same period last year.  It looks at how advising sessions are being conducted, with what communications technology and how policies developed pre-epidemic are being followed or changed in the current environment.  The study also looks at how advising officials are working with retention and assessment officials to limit losses of student enrollment during the pandemic. In addition, it gives detailed info on how the pandemic is likely to impact the employment prospects and budgets of college advising departments.

Just a few of this 100-page report’s many findings are that:

  • During the pandemic, approximately 27% of online academic advising sessions are completed in less than 20 minutes.
  • 98.1% of academic advising sessions are currently conducted online.
  • 51% of colleges in the sample require students to see an academic advisor.
  • 14.64% of respondents were using Skype frequently or very frequently in their academic advising work.
  • 40%  of academic advising programs connected to schools charging less than $5,500 per year in annual tuition used Microsoft Teams frequently or very frequently in their current academic advising effort.

Data in the page report is broken out by size and type of institution, by tuition level, for public and private institutions, and enrolment level.
