The Europe Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Systems Market is expected to witness market growth of 16.8% CAGR during the forecast period (2020-2026).

In a VRF device it is possible to connect several indoor fan coil units to one outdoor unit. The outdoor unit has one or more inverter driven compressors, so that they can vary their speed by changing the frequency of the power supply to the compressor. As the speed of the compressor changes, so does the amount of refrigerant the compressor delivers. Every indoor fan coil unit has its own metering system which is operated by either the indoor unit or the outdoor unit itself. As each indoor unit sends out demand to the outdoor unit, the outdoor unit provides the amount of refrigerant required to meet each indoor unit's individual requirements. These features make the VRF device best suited for all applications that have user or building orientation-based part load criteria, as well as applications that require zoning.

A VRF system's main heating and cooling plant is typically an air source or a heat pump with water source. In some Midwestern applications ground source or "geothermal" heat pump systems have proven efficient. The outdoor unit 's purpose is to exchange heat with the outdoor environment, either by expelling heat (when refrigerating) or by absorbing heat (when heating). Heat is exchanged with the outside atmosphere using a heat exchanger filled with R-410a refrigerant, which is then pumped to one of several indoor systems in the house. Variable speed compressors are used to allow for the use of lower compressor speeds during part-load conditions.
