Development in the Czech Connectivity


Being located in the heart of Europe, the infrastructural development of the Czech Republic is very important for the national as well as international interests. The country is planning various investments in terms of expansion of the transportation & railroad network along with innovation in the field of e-mobility. Currently, it is still lacking some 800 kilometres of highways, which, as per the original plans, should be completed by 2030.



The European Union has come up with the project known as the C-ROADS as an attempt to interconnect on the public, private and academic domains with the most important international partners and multinational companies in their field. The aim of this international project, which is part of the European C-ROADS platform, is to create a functional, technically and organizationally harmonized system for cross-border use of services of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) between individual European countries. This project is part of the European C-ROADS Platform, which aims to create a technically harmonized functional system among particular European projects for cross-border use of services of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), thus creating an environment for the arrival of cooperative and, in the near future, automated vehicles. The use of new technologies will contribute to higher safety of road users and smoother and more efficient transport, with noticeable emission reduction. Changes will have a positive impact on the European economy that needs a safe, reliable and efficient transport system.



Warehousing Trends driving the market


With the increasing penetration of the e-commerce sector and consumer's demand for fast and safe delivery of the ordered goods, the e-retailers are imposing of the establishment of better connectivity within the cities to ensure minimum expenses along with better service. Not only the retail sector by also the manufacturing and automobile industries prefer warehousing capacities that are fully automated and can have huge capacities providing seamless service at the same time. In Q3 2019, the P3 Prague D11 logistics park had more than 160,000 sq. metre of warehousing space under construction. Further, P3 signed a contract with DHL to build new self-contained custom-built industrial space with sizes of 16,000 and 15,000 sq. metre for companies from the retail and automotive sectors.



Among recent developments, In 2020, the construction of Multimodal logistics centre near Leoš Janáček International Airport Ostrava is expected to commence. The facility will have a railway container terminal strategically placed on the New Silk Road with a direct connection to highway and railway networks covering a total area of 520,000 sq. metre.



The Supermarket Lidl is constructing a logistics centre near Kladno, near Prague. It is expected to be one of Europe’s largest warehousing space, with 60,000 sq. meters of storage space including one-third temperature-controlled dedicate space for fresh or frozen goods.

The market is relatively concentrated with a small number of local and international players such as CD Cargo, DHL Supply Chain, DB Schenker, CEE Logistics and HAVI Logistics as its key players. With the emergence of robotics and digital transformative technologies, the warehouse, distribution facility, and fulfillment centres have transformed into strategic sites for businesses to develop a lean supply chain. In the past few years, with the introduction of warehouse robots, the warehousing operations have been transformed to a great extent driving the companies to attain the competitive advantage over the other competitors and maintain their position in the market.
