Ever since the electron was discovered in by J.J. Thomson in 1897, the world has been captivated with the dynamics of what lies within the core of an atom, namely the nucleus. Today nuclear sciences and its applications have invaded the human society. The destructive power as we have seen from the nuclear explosion in Hiroshima- Nagasaki is something which we all like to forget and not like to see again even once more in the future. However, the peaceful and the constructive applications of nuclear technology can be exploited for the betterment of this world in a responsible and thoughtful manner.

It is because of this very fact that today nuclear technology is finding a wide range of applications like nuclear reactors for energy generation, use in medical sciences (like Radioisotopes and Radiopharmaceuticals, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Radiation Therapy, Emission Tomography etc.), Scientific Analysis Techniques (like Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, NMR Spectroscopy, tracers etc.), industrial applications (like Gamma Radiography, Measurements and Industrial Analysis, Small Power Sources etc.) and much importantly in the agriculture sector too.
