In the fish industry, the first two companies account for 32% of the total market. The tobacco market is dominated by companies of foreign origin. There are not many companies in the Ukrainian market that manufacture tobacco products. The first four companies occupy over 80% of the market.

Onions are imported by wholesalers and retailers. Peanuts are imported by confectionery companies, which use them in production. Fats and oils are also imported by confectionery companies. Carrots, turnips and other vegetables are imported by agricultural companies that are engaged in wholesale and retail trade.

When importing salmon and trout into Ukraine, 5-2% import duty and 20% VAT have to be paid. There are no import quotas for other species of fish in the commodity group "0303".

When importing tobacco of product category "2401", 1% import duty is required. An excise duty of 1,139.76 UAH/kg is also required (effective from 01.01.2020 to 31.12.2020). Accordingly, value added tax of 20% must be paid on the import of goods. Tobacco raw materials may only be imported by business entities licensed to manufacture tobacco products; tobacco fermentation plants that sell fermented tobacco raw materials to tobacco manufacturers or for export. It is also necessary to have a phytosanitary control (plants) and a phytosanitary certificate from the documents.

The import duty for onion, onion, shallot and garlic seeds is 10%, and for leeks and other onion vegetables 20%. The value added tax is 20%. Documentation must have a phytosanitary certificate, quality certificate, phytosanitary inspection (plants), phytosanitary inspection (seeds).

The import duty for peanuts in packages with a net weight of 25 kg or more is 0%, while for other categories the duty is 5%. Documentation must have a phytosanitary certificate, quality certificate, phytosanitary inspection (plants), phytosanitary inspection (seeds).

For nuts, almonds and hazelnuts packed in bags with a net weight exceeding 10 kg, there is no import duty, and for other categories the duty is 5%. For walnuts, the import duty is 10%. For chestnuts and pistachios the duty is 5%. For macadamia nuts and pine nuts the duty is 15%. Documentation must have a phytosanitary certificate, quality certificate, phytosanitary inspection (plants), phytosanitary inspection (seeds).

The import duty for animal fats and oils in primary packaging with a net weight of 1 kg is 10%. For hydrogenated castor oil it is 20%, for olive oil it is 10% and for palm oil it is 5%. For other oils and fats, the import duty is 5%.

For potatoes packed in 5 kg or more, the import duty is 5%. For sweet corn, sour cabbage and peas -15%.
