The Indonesia basic chemicals market size was valued at $17.6 billion in 2020, and is projected to reach $35.1 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 7.2% from 2021 to 2030.

Basic chemicals are usually produced in large quantities and these chemicals are crucial products that will be used in the industrial and consumer sectors. Basic chemicals are mainly grouped into three categories such as organic petrochemicals, inorganic chemicals, and oleochemicals. These chemicals are used as processors in industries such as plastic, food & beverages, building & construction, agriculture, and others. Sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, caustic soda, nitric soda, hydrochloric acid (HCL), ethylene dichloride (EDC), and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) are types of inorganic chemicals. Organic petrochemicals include py-gas and butane-1, while organic oleochemicals include fatty acids, fatty alcohols, methyl ester, glycerol, acetic acid, and others.
Py-gas is highly aromatic compound that is used majorly as a high-octane gasoline blend stock and it is a valuable cracker by-product utilized for production of benzene, toluene, and xylene. In addition, it can also be used for conversion of useful industrial products. These factors are escalating the adoption of basic chemicals. Moreover, fatty alcohol production is the major application of methyl esters and it can be used to manufacture alcohol-based products, which is another considerable factor that is escalating the growth of the Indonesia basic chemicals market.

On the contrary, fatty alcohols are type of oleochemicals that have several health-related issues such as burning, stinging, redness, or irritation, which may occur if they are come in contact with skin. In addition, serious allergic reactions may occur such as swelling of face, tongue, throat, and severe dizziness that may occur if a person is exposed to it for long period. These factors are predicted to hamper the market growth.

Ethylene dichloride (EDC) is utilized mainly for production of vinyl chloride monomer, which can be further used for manufacturing of PVC and production of chlorinated solvents such as trichloroethylene, ethylene amines, vinylidene chloride, and trichloroethane that uses EDC as an intermediate chemical compound. Use of EDC as a catalyst during production of hexachlorophene and as an intermediate for manufacturing of perchloroethylene is anticipated to open up new opportunity in the future.

The Indonesia basic chemicals market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and sales channel. On the basis of type, the market is segregated into inorganic chemicals, organic petrochemicals, and oleochemicals. By application, it is fragmented into packaging, energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, building & construction, and others. Based on sales channel, Indonesia basic chemicals market is segmented into B2B and B2C.
