Automotive RADARs are installed in automobiles to locate the object in the surrounding, which involves a transmitter and receiver. The transmitter in automotive RADAR sends out radio waves that hit the object and bounce back to the receiver. By managing the direction of the radio waves in which radio waves were sent and received, it is possible to detect the object’s distance, speed, and direction. Automotive RADAR is classified into three categories namely long-range RADARs, short-range RADARs, and medium-range RADARs. For measuring the distance and speed of other vehicles, long-range RADARs are used. Whereas, medium-range RADARs are used for detecting objects within a wider field of view. In addition, short-range RADARs are used for sensing objects in the vehicle’s vicinity such as parking.

Due to its exceptional efficiency and functionality even on substandard road infrastructure, automobile RADAR technology is outperforming automotive sensing technology. Manufacturers are offering automobile RADAR equipped with boundless opportunities to guarantee consistent performance as technology advances. For instance, in June 2021, Rohde & Schwarz introduced a new RADAR test system that imitates driving situations for testing RADAR sensors and RADAR-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) used in autonomously driving cars (AD) completely over the air.

Factors such as a rise in demand for safety features in automobiles and an increase in demand for comfortable driving boost the growth of the market. In addition, strict rules and regulations for safety features are anticipated to propel the growth of the automotive RADAR market. However, factors such as high cost & complex structure, and low efficiency in bad weather conditions are anticipated to hamper the growth of the market. Further, an increase in technological advancement and innovation in ADAS is expected to create numerous opportunities for the players operating in the automotive RADAR market.

The automotive RADAR market is segmented on the basis of application, frequency, range, vehicle type, and region. Application segment includes adaptive cruise control (ACC), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind spot detection (BSD), forward collision warning system, intelligent park assists, and others. Further, based on frequency, the market is categorized into 24 GHz, 77 GHz, and 79 GHz. Based on range, the market is classified into long-range RADAR (LRR), and short & medium range RADAR (S&MRR). Vehicle type includes passenger car and commercial vehicles. Based on region, the market is analyzed across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and LAMEA.

Key players including Autoliv Inc., Continental AG, Delphi Automotive Company, DENSO Corporation, NXP Semiconductors, Robert Bosch GmbH, Texas Instruments, Valeo, ZF Friedrichshafen, Analog, and others hold major automotive RADAR market share.
