Stalled: Falling demand from tourism due to the COVID-19 outbreak has reduced revenue
Bus transport providers have faced volatile demand conditions. Prior to the pandemic, demand rose steadily as New Zealand's population expanded and investment in public transport increased. However, the onset of the pandemic created turbulent conditions, causing revenue to plummet. Overall, bus transport operators' revenue is expected to fall at an average of 3.9% per years over the five years through 2022-23, to $883.4 million. This includes an anticipated rise of 8.9% in the current year, as pandemic related restrictions have eased and demand conditions are set to improve.
