Following four years of continuous decline, Australia’s gold mine production rebounded to 2018 levels in 2025 with 8.9% growth to 10.9 million ounces (Moz). The robust growth was mainly underpinned by the expansions, ramp-ups and start of new projects.
Looking ahead to 2026, gold production in the country is slated to expand by an additional 4.0% to reach 11.3Moz. This near-term growth is anchored by the scheduled commencement of several new projects including the Kirkalocka, Challenger Restart, Mount Morgan, Hillgrove Restart projects in 2026. In addition, ongoing ramp-up of several projects that commenced in 2025 such as the Castle Hill, Murchison, Paulsens Restart, Crown Prince, Chariot, Jupiter, and Federation Underground projects will further support output. Furthermore, this upward momentum will be reinforced by robust operational performances at major mines, highlighted by the mill expansion at Kalgoorlie and ongoing capacity upgrades at the Telfer mine.
