The publisher expects the construction industry in Tanzania to expand by 5.8% in real terms in 2024 and register an average annual growth of 7.9% from 2025 to 2027, supported by investments in the transportation, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Additionally, the government’s focus on improving its business environment and attracting foreign investments towards the country is likely to support the industry’s growth over the coming years. According to the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), 362 projects worth TZS9.9 trillion ($4.3 billion) were registered in the first three quarters of 2023, marking a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 54% for the same period of 2022, when 235 projects were registered. Out of all the projects registered, the domestic investments in the country accounted for 62% and foreign investments accounted for 38%. The Tanzanian government approved its Financial Year (FY) FY2023-24 (July 2023 to June 2024) Budget in October 2023. Of the total, TZS1.3 trillion ($563 million) is allocated for the construction and rehabilitation of road networks, and TZS1.2 trillion ($519.7 million) for the construction of roads and bridges.

Forecast-period growth in the industry will also be supported by investments as part of the TZS35.1 trillion ($15.2 billion) Tanzania Water Investment Programme (TanWIP), which will run from 2024 to 2030. The program aims to strengthen the clean drinking water infrastructure by developing water supply schemes and a national grid. Additionally, the government’s plan to achieve an installed power capacity of 5.7GW by 2025 will drive investments towards the renewable energy sector in the coming quarters. The government is currently developing few megaprojects like the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant, which involves the construction of a 2,115MW hydro power plant by 2024.
