Brazil which is one of the major global markets for micro irrigation relies on expanding irrigated cropping areas to increase agricultural production. This expansion is constrained by water policy goals to restrict water scarcity to acceptable levels. The agricultural land has increased from 6 million acres to 7 million acres under irrigated systems. Latin America has a diverse climate across the region from dry to temperate. In arid and semiarid areas of Argentina and Brazil, crop production relies totally on irrigation.
