The Europe 3D scanner market was valued at US$316.890 million in 2020 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.28% over the forecast period to reach a total market size of US$669.619 million by 2027.

3D scanning has become a significant instrument in the product lifecycle management (PLM) process and is gaining commercial momentum. It has changed the way businesses model, develop, and depict the current world in the game industry. Scanner improvements have simplified and improved the measurement and documenting processes in a wide range of industries, from engineering and manufacturing to healthcare. Furthermore, present measurement professionals can enhance efficiency by adding three-dimensional scanning into their procedure.

The key factors boosting demand for 3D scanners in Europe are a high investment in research and development by leading market players and the rising use of 3D scanners by various end-user industries. Furthermore, advancements in 3D modelling and mapping technology, as well as a greater emphasis on quality control and accuracy, will increase demand for these scanners. Over the projected period, the use of 3D scanners for enhanced medical treatment will drive regional market expansion.

Increased adoption by end-user industries and innovations by market players:

In September 2021, Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) in Switzerland became the first European hospital to receive a 3D colour X-ray scanner utilising  CERN technology.  CERN and MARS Bioimaging, a New Zealand-based company, have been working together since 2008 to develop a 3D colour X-ray scanner based on the Medipix3 collaboration's Medipix3 technology. The Medipix3 and Timepix3 chips, now used in medical applications, space exploration, and art authentication, are inspired by particle physics detectors. CERN and MARS Bioimaging extended their current contract by five years in June 2021, assisting MARS Bioimaging in securing US Food and Drug Administration and European Union clearance.

Restraints:

Price Sensitivity

Customers are concerned about pricing disparities between efficient 3D technological solutions and traditional 2D alternatives. 3D scanning systems are more costly than 2D options. As a result, companies and customers who require extremely sophisticated end deliverables prefer 3D scanning equipment. Customers or companies have a particular budget set up for costly services in order to assist them in purchasing 3D scanning solutions. The majority of market participants are small and medium-sized businesses. Such businesses require effective goods, but due to high costs, they cannot afford 3D services and must settle for 2D alternatives that sacrifice quality, which in turn affects the sales of 3D scanner market.

The  impact of COVID-19 on the European 3D Scanner Market:

Every industry is facing challenges due to COVID-19. . The 3D scanner market size has decreased overall due to the global epidemic and the restrictions. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the industry has faced a number of problems. However, the production process is continuing, which presents chances for development. The market's value chain is being disrupted by distributors and suppliers. According to the 3D Scanner Market study, the 3D Scanner market will grow beginning in 2021. It will eventually result in extraordinary market trends throughout the predicted period.

Key Developments

  • Velodyne Lidar, Inc. signed a multi-year deal in September 2021 to deliver its LiDAR sensors to TOPODRONE, a Swiss company that produces affordable, high-precision aerial survey systems.
  • In June 2021, the German company OKM3D, one of the largest European distributors currently mastering a wide range of additive manufacturing technologies, expanded its network throughout Europe with the signing of two new distribution agreements. One with Anisoprint for the entire European market, and the second one with Shining3D for France, Benelux, and England.
