Myanmar's construction industry is projected to decline marginally by 0.6% in real terms in 2026, owing to ongoing political instability in the country, amid rising geopolitical trade tensions and internal political instability. According to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), Myanmar secured MMK835.8 billion ($398 million) in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 10 months of the financial year (FY) 2025-26 (from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026) which marks a sharp decline from MMK656.2 million ($222.2 million) during the same period of FY2024-25. This reflects an estimated drop in inward FDI amid ongoing geopolitical and internal political uncertainty during February and March 2026. Notably, in mid-March 2026, Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Myanmar was confronting challenges stemming from economic instability, geopolitical upheaval, and climate change. The ongoing US-Israel war on Iran that intensified on February 28 2026 might disrupt oil imports of Myanmar, with oil being one of the crucial product for Myanmar’s economy.

Over the remainder of the forecast period, the construction industry is expected to grow by 4.4% in real terms during 2027 to 2030, supported by investments in manufacturing, transport, and renewable energy sectors. Forecast period growth in the energy sector will be driven by Myanmar's National Electrification Master Plan, which aims to increase the country’s electricity production capacity from approximately 6,000MW in 2024 to 12,000MW by 2030. In line with this, the government of Myanmar is also committed to completely phasing our coal by 2050. As part of these targets, the government is drafting a new 20-year energy development plan (2026-45) to further expand clean energy.
