  • Contactless payments are being expanded to public transport. In June 2022, payment companies Masabi and Ibergex partnered to implement the FPaaS contactless payment system for public transport in Mexico. Previously, in October 2021, US-based transportation solutions provider Conduent Transportation partnered with Getnet, Work Level, and Visa to implement a contactless payment system on three lines of Mexico City's Metrobus system.
  • The proliferation of fintech companies and digital-only banks will boost competition in the banking sector and improve debit card adoption. In February 2023, Mexican payment company INVEX launched its digital-only bank, Now Banco. Users can open an account via the Now Banco mobile app, with a Mastercard debit card offered as standard. Previously, Mexican digital-only bank Oyster launched debit cards for SMEs and freelancers in collaboration with Mastercard in May 2020. Other prominent digital banks in Mexico include albo and Fondeadora.
  • Alternative payment solutions are gaining prominence, with both domestic and international options available in the country. Google Wallet launched in Mexico in November 2022, allowing users to make in-store, online, and in-app payments. In addition to payments, Google Wallet enables users to store tickets, passes, keys, and IDs. Google Wallet has been launched for Visa card holders in Mexico and is currently supported by Banregio, Banorte, Hey Banco, Inbursa, and Nubank.
