The Asia Pacific Milking Robots Market should witness market growth of 12.9% CAGR during the forecast period (2022-2028).

A cow ID sensor reads an identifying tag (transponder) on the cow and transmits the cow ID to the control system when the cow decides to enter the milking unit. If the cow has been milked too recently, the automated gate system will release the animal. If the cow can be milked, automated teat cleaning, application of the milking cup, milking, and teat spraying occur. As an incentive for cows to attend the milking unit, concentrated feedstuffs must be supplied to them there.

The barn may be designed so that the main feeding area is only accessible by passing the milking unit. This configuration is known as directed cow traffic. Alternately, the barn may be designed so that the cow always has access to feed, water, and a pleasant place to lie down, and is only attracted to visit the milking system by the availability of tasty feed. This is known as "free cow traffic." The robotic manipulator within the milking unit is the ingenious heart of the AMS system.

This robotic arm automates teat cleaning and milking attachment, removing the last remaining parts of manual labor from the milking procedure. Proper design of the robot arm and related sensors and controls enables strong unattended performance, so the farmer need only visit the cows for condition checks and when a cow has not shown up to be milked. Typically, an AMS can milk between 50 and 70 cows per milking unit. AMS often accomplishes milking frequency between 2 and 3 times per day; hence, a single milking unit capable of milking 60 cows three times per day has a capacity of 7.5 cows per hour.

Milk is the most important agricultural commodity, as measured by its 5% contribution to the national economy and its direct contribution to the employment of nearly 8 crore farmers. India is the leader in milk production, accounting for 23 percent of the total milk supply worldwide. It was announced on Monday that the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Food Processing, will be extended till March 2026 with a budget of INR 4,600 crore. The growing government initiative towards the dairy sector propels the growth of the milking robot market.
