Two-wheeler Maintenance in Asia, 2022: Frost Radar Report

  • Report

  • November 2022
  • Region: Asia Pacific
  • Frost & Sullivan
  • ID: 5709079

Maintenance is a major component of the $150 billion global two-wheeler market, which includes electric and internal combustion engine vehicles. Frost & Sullivan expects maintenance revenue to witness exponential growth during the next five years driven by demand for premium two-wheelers, a growing secondhand market, emission concerns, carbon neutrality targets, evolving mobility needs and the demand for electric micromobility in delivery fleets, rising fuel costs, and digitization trends.

The two-wheeler industry’s gradual shift toward electrification has service providers upskilling workforces on the use of equipment that reads onboard diagnostic modules for the software- and sensor-oriented vehicles’ specific maintenance and repair needs. An electric two-wheeler needs only about 10% of the replacement parts of a comparable internal combustion engine vehicle during its periodic maintenance and may require a unique set of tools for service or repair.

Internet penetration in Asia is having an effect on the industry as customers increasingly rely on Google reviews and social media platforms for the identification of suitable maintenance service providers. Digitization that has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic began has compelled service providers to devise innovative business models that prioritize convenience and comfort for the customer. Digital payment options, smartphone app-based service scheduling, online spare parts retail, doorstep servicing, and pickup/drop service are among the resources that have gained traction since 2020.
