Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have many applications in the biomedical field because of their non-toxicity, high chemical stability, and biocompatibility. They are used in DNA or protein separation, hyperthermia, tissue engineering, magnetic resonance imaging, cancer therapy, drug delivery, bone and dental repair, biosensors, etc. 

The book focuses on magnetic nanoparticles and coated nanoparticles (ferrites nanoparticles, bimetallic-magnetic nanoparticles, magnetic fluid); their synthesis, characterization, and in vivo or in vitro biomedical applications.

Dr. Rajshree B. Jotania is a professor of Physics, Department of Physics, Electronics and Space science, at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. She obtained her B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph. D from Saurashtra University, Rajkot, India. She was Junior Research Fellow (DAE-BRNS project) during 1987 to 1989 at Physics Department, Saurashtra University, Rajkot, India. She obtained a few regional and national awards for contribution toward scientific research. She worked at National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India for few months as a Summer Visiting Teacher Fellow in 2005 and as a Visiting Scientist fellow in 2011. She possesses 32 years of teaching experience at UG and PG level. She is a member of board of studies at few Universities of Gujarat, India and a Mentor of DST-INSPIRE (Department of Science and Technology- Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) program. She has published more than 100 papers in various research journals and conference proceedings. She has delivered more than 25 invited talks at various DST-INSPIRE Internship science camp in India. She has edited four books entitled ‘Ferrites and ceramic composites’ (Vol. I & II, Trans Tech Publisher (TTP), Switzerland), Magnetic Oxides and Ceramic Composites and is working on one more book (Green Nanomaterials for Clean and Sustainable Environment). She has visited Singapore, Malaysia, USA (New York), and North Africa (Tunisia) for research work. She has attended more than 55 international, national conferences/symposiums/seminars/ academy meeting and worked as a chair person as well as delivered invited talks in a few international and national conferences. She possesses a life membership of eight professional bodies and she has guided seven Ph. D, twelve M. Phil students. At present five students are working under her guidance for Ph. D. To date she has completed five research projects of various agencies.  She has worked as deputy co-coordinator, DRS (SAP-I) program. She was a secretary, Gujarat chapter RC-07, Indian Association of Physics Teacher (IAPT). Recently she has been associated with a few universities for scientific co-operation in nanomagnetic and nanotechnology field.

Dr. Martín F. Desimone is Professor in the Department of Chemical Sciences in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Buenos Aires and holds a Principal Researcher position at CONICET, Argentina. He studied Pharmacy, Biochemistry and received his Ph. D. from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was a postdoctoral visiting scientist at the University of Basque Country in Spain and held a Maître de conferences position in the Collège de France working in the Laboratoire de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Paris (UMR 7574 Sorbonne Université, CNRS, Collège de France). He leads a research team working on nanocomposites and hybrid materials combining biomaterials with nanomaterials and biological active molecules for biomedical applications such as wound healing, tissue engineering, drug delivery, 3D printing and stimuli-responsive materials. He has established fruitful collaborations with national and international teams contributing to the work of ten Ph D. and two Master students who concluded their work with his direction.  He is the recipient of several awards including awards from the National Academy of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, the Award “Innovar” in the category applied research received in two consecutive years (2016 and 2017) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation (MINCYT, Argentina), the distinction “Dr. José A. Balseiro” XV edition, received in The Argentine Senate, which is the upper house of the Argentine National Congress, International Association of Advanced Materials medal of the year 2018 (Sweden), and the “Academic Excellence” from the University of Buenos Aires in four consecutive years, among others. He is cofounder of the start-up enterprise Hybridon which is producing nanotechnological applications. He has coauthored more than 120 international scientific publications, 17 book chapters and 4 patents.
