Japan avocado market was valued at US$211.121 million in 2020. Japanese culture is known for its rich and healthy diet. The country’s traditional diet is unprocessed and fresh. Imported avocados are available in the domestic market throughout the year. According to UN Comtrade, Japan imported 76.694 tons of avocado in 2021, the volume has increased from 60,635 tons in 2016. In addition, according to Avocados Australia’s CEO, they are planning to expand the exports every year, as demand from Japan is steadily increasing for avocados. In the nation, people often refer to avocados as “the butter of the forest” due to their buttery consistency, rich flavor, and high-calorie content.

Huge demand for avocados in Japan’s food and beverages can be witnessed.

Even though avocado is a foreign country fruit, it is widely used as a key element in the preparation of famous Japanese dishes such as Sushi. The use of avocados in sushi began with an experiment in the 1970s and now has emerged as its essential ingredient. Along with this, the Japanese are also fond of coffee. The coffee culture in Japan started back in the mid-1800s. Furthermore, avocado coffee is well-known in the country. As avocado provides a smoothie texture to the beverage, it is popularly demanded in Japan. Apart from being used as an ingredient, avocado oil is highly used by the Japanese audience for its various skin benefits. It is generally used as an ingredient in essential oils.
