The Asia Pacific bioadhesives market is anticipated to develop at a CAGR of 12.90%, from US$0.080 billion in 2020 to US$0.187 billion by 2027.

Biological surfaces can be adhered to using bioadhesives, which are compounds with adhesive properties found in naturally occurring polymeric materials. In order to make glue, biological intermediates such as starch, cellulose, or gelatins are utilized. In clinical settings, bioadhesives have proven to be superior to tissue adhesives, hemostats, and tissue sealants. Due to the inherent stickiness, the applications have been broadened to include the fixation of medical devices as well as a functional wound dressing and factor delivery vehicles.

Rising environmental concerns and industrialization to boost the growth of the bioadhesives market in the Asia Pacific Region

Rising environmental concerns will be the main factor driving the growth of the worldwide bioadhesives market. Many countries now accept bio-based products as legal requirements for a variety of uses. In order to ensure safety and prevent health problems and hazards brought on by VOC emissions from synthetic or petro-based adhesives, bio-products are also prioritized by international adhesive manufacturers. As a result, it will stimulate the market for bioadhesives on a global scale. The vast range of uses for bioadhesives in construction, personal care, paper & packaging, medical, and other industries will fuel the expansion of the worldwide bioadhesives market during the study period. It is estimated that the Asia-Pacific bioadhesives market will expand as a result of the region's high population and rapid development. Additionally, rising urbanization spending is anticipated to help the global bioadhesives market over the course of the forecast year.

Market Developments:

  • June 2021: The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) announced the construction of a new silicone resin plant as part of its larger investment strategy to meet the growth in the demand for silicones and spur innovation. This will increase its global capacity and meet the rising demand for high-value, specialty silicone products in important industries and developing markets around the world. The new building will be situated on the site of Dow's current manufacturing complex in Zhangjiagang, in eastern China. Silicone resin is a high-tech substance with distinctive physical and chemical properties that is essential for high-value specialty silicone applications in personal care, pressure-sensitive adhesives, bioadhesives, antifoam, moldable optics for lighting, and specialty chemical sectors. The new plant will help Dow better position itself to address the global market imbalance in silicones supply and demand, provide enhanced supply security for customers, and aid in their growth and success, particularly in the dynamic markets of the Asia-Pacific region. Its design, construction, and operations will all adhere to Dow's world-class environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Feb 2020: An entirely owned subsidiary of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, Henkel Adhesives Technologies India Private Limited, unveiled its new production plant in Kurkumbh, close to Pune. The company plans to meet the expanding need of Indian industries for high-performance solutions in bioadhesives, sealants, and surface treatment products with a total expenditure of roughly 50 MEUR (INR 400 crores). The location of this cutting-edge manufacturing plant is 100,000 SQM in size and has a built-up area of 51,000 SQM. The largest glue manufacturing facility in India is located here. Henkel's ability to serve clients in a variety of industries, such as flexible packaging, automotive, agriculture & construction equipment, general industry, and metals, will be further enhanced. The website is outfitted with technology that guarantees built-in quality while also providing traceability and transparency. Manufacturing has become more productive because of the plant operations' complete digitalization, which has made workflows digital. It uses closed material handling systems and a high degree of automation in its processes.

Product Offerings:

  • PROLOC Bioadhesive: Henkel's patented PROLOC bioadhesive technology is an improved method for delivering therapeutic drugs locally and across mucosal membranes at different absorption locations. While still being gentle on the mucosa, PROLOC bioadhesive nanoparticles offer improved bioadhesive characteristics and the potential for larger medication loading. A patented technique using USP-grade amylopectin (waxy maize) and USP-grade carbomer is used to create PROLOC bioadhesive gels. Carbomers are bioadhesive polymers that are frequently found in skin care products and are perfect for targeted and regulated drug administration. The PROLOC system can be used as a powder, cast as a film, or crushed as a tablet. A number of clinical experiments have been carried out to show that the PROLOC technology can successfully transport medications across the mucosa or for local therapy.
  • GantrezTM: The synthetic, alternating copolymers of methyl vinyl ether (mve) and maleic anhydride known as GantrezTM, a polymer come in a variety of molecular weights. Despite not being directly applicable to oral care goods, anhydride polymers (and grades) are utilized as the basis polymer to create polymer salts that are applied as bioadhesives in denture adhesive applications. The anhydride side-chain hydrolyzes when gantrezTM polymer anhydrides are dispersed in water, resulting in free diacid solutions that are immediately usable in oral care products. As gantrez s polymers, GantrezTM polymer diacids are offered. Denture adhesive polymers are synthesized as part of the application.
