The global flexible OLED market was valued at $4,140.0 million in 2021, and is projected to reach $117,668.32 million by 2031, registering a CAGR of 40.41% from 2022 to 2031.

A self-illuminating flat panel display, known as OLED, is a display in which an organic material is sandwiched between two wires. These displays do not require a backlight to work, as they can produce a bright light when an electric current passes through them. Compared to LCD and LED screens, OLED screens can be made significantly thinner and more energy efficient without backlighting.

A flexible organic light-emitting diode (FOLED) is a type of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) that includes a flexible plastic substrate on which an electroluminescent organic semiconductor is deposited. This allows the device to be bent or rolled during operation. Flexible OLEDs are one way to create a rollable display, and they are now the subject of research in both academic and industrial groups. In addition, customers are increasingly interested in organic LED displays due to their improved image clarity and fast pixel rendering.

The flexible OLED display market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. By type, the market is bifurcated into AMOLED and PMOLED. By application, the market is categorized into smartphones & tablets, televisions, laptops & monitors, wearables, and others. Region-wise, the flexible OLED display market is analyzed across North America (U.S., Canada, and Mexico), Europe (UK, Germany, France, and rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, Japan, India, South Korea, and rest of Asia-Pacific) and LAMEA (Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa).

Executive Summary

According to the report titled, 'Flexible OLED Market,' the flexible oled market was valued at $4.1 billion in 2021, and is estimated to reach $117.7 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 40.4% from 2022 to 2031.

Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) is a technology that makes use of LEDs and uses organic molecules to produce light. The display panels that are thought to be the best in the world are made with these organic LEDs. By sandwiching a series of organic thin films between two conductors, OLED displays are made. A flexible OLED display is based on a flexible substrate, which can be either metal, flexible glass or plastic. Metal and plastic panels are thin, light and very durable; in fact, they are almost unbreakable. These OLED screens have several advantages, mainly in mobile devices, because the screens are lighter, thinner and more durable compared to glass-based screens.

The rise in demand for smartphones with larger displays and flexible design features and advancements in autonomous and electric vehicles are the factors that will drive demand for flexible OLED over the forecast period. Low reference rates are a major problem for many televisions (TVs), monitors, and smart displays, causing lag and poor performance. Flexible organic light emitting diode displays are the best solution for better performance and help reduce eye strain. These screens improve the user interface, making it easier to scroll through the app drawer, rate images, and weave images much more conveniently. In addition, the growing need for safe, secure, and high refresh rate devices to reduce eye damage and launch features quickly is likely to increase the demand for flexible OLED devices, which in turn will drive market revenue growth during the forecast period.

However, high manufacturing costs, increased susceptibility to wear and tear, increased risk of water damage, and lack of quality issues due to residual voltage, thermal stress, and external stress are expected to hinder the global flexible organic light emitting diode market. Flexible OLEDs are difficult to manufacture because they are made of anodes, substrates, cover glass, extraction layers, organic materials and other small electronics. Encapsulation of all these components requires skilled labor, making the entire manufacturing process more expensive, which is expected to hinder the flexible OLED market revenue growth during the forecast period.

Based on recent developments, Samsung Display plans to build a new 6-gen flexible OLED series. The new line will replace the current LCD line used for TV production at SDC's Asan plant. The new plant will cost about 3 trillion South Korean won, or about $2.7 billion, and will have a monthly capacity of 30,000 substrates per month. This increases the production capacity of Samsung Display AMOLED to 195,000 substrates per month.

The flexible OLED market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the market is divided into AMOLED and PMOLED. On the basis of application, it is divided into smartphones & tablets, televisions, laptops & monitors, wearables, and others. On the basis of region, it is analyzed across North America (U.S., Canada, and Mexico), Europe (UK, Germany, France, and rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China, India, Japan, South Korea, and rest of Asia-Pacific), and LAMEA (Latin America, Middle East, and Africa).
