Personal ownership of computers has reached a plateau over the last few years, with an increase in ownership of smart speakers balancing a decrease in tablet device ownership.

Whilst overall internet access at home has long been a norm for children, internet access via their mobile phone has gradually increased over the last ten years.

YouTube has dominated children’s favourite websites and apps for the last ten years, but challenger website TikTok is now almost as popular.

Personal ownership of games consoles has found it’s level with around three in five owning.

Mobile phone ownership, after a few fluctuations, is now back to the same level that it was ten years ago.

Ten years ago, children’s primary form of targeted entertainment was through dedicated children’s TV channels, but only a third watched these in the last week this year.

Despite the growing availability of electronic gadgets over the last ten years, the proportion of children reading books for pleasure every day has changed very little.

Children’s access to regular income, either from pocket money / an allowance or a job, has reduced over the last ten years, although the amount of money received has increased.

Children’s self purchase across categories relevant to them has fluctuated over time, but there is a gradual decline for most categories.
