China ranks as the sixth largest producer of oil and gas, but the world's second largest consumer. As the consumption increases on a yearly basis, and supply is unable to meet the demand, China relies heavily on imports. In the early 2000's much of China's oil imports were derived from southeast Asia, but as demand grew the country started importing from various parts of the world such as Australia. The country's liquid production is dominated by onshore oil and condensate production, which has grown steadily over the years, with 2,740,377 bd in 2019 and 2,818,216bd in 2023.
