In late April 2026, a federal judge in San Juan province cleared the path for an Australian mining company, Broken Hill Proprietary Company (BHP) and a Canadian mining company, Lundin Mining, to resume work on the Filo del Sol copper-gold project. The project had faced a brief suspension earlier in 2026 due to environmental complaints regarding glacier protection laws. By lifting the injunction, the court has allowed the partners to proceed with their ASR7.7 trillion ($5 billion) development plan, which is a critical part of project pipeline under President Javier Milei's Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), directly supporting the government's goal of becoming a global copper exporter.

The industry is expected to register an annual average growth rate of 4.5% between 2027 and 2030, supported by investments in the oil and gas infrastructure projects, coupled with the government's aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Moreover, under the National Hydrogen Strategy (ENH), the government plans to invest ARS139 trillion ($90 billion) to produce at least five million tons (Mt) of low-emission hydrogen per year by 2050. The strategy focuses on constructing hydrogen production hubs, improving road corridors, and ports to increase connectivity between hydrogen hubs and Argentina’s network of universities and local technological centres by 2050. in January 2026, the Santa Cruz provincial government announced that it had received a ARS322.8 billion ($209 million) loan from China to resume work on a hydroelectric dam. The Barrancosa-Jorge Cepernic dam is part of a broader project that includes two hydroelectric dams. The project is expected to increase Argentina’s hydroelectric generation capacity by 15% and provide electricity to more than 600,000 homes.
