The demand for fuel cell trucks is also being driven by the increasing focus on last-mile delivery. With the growth of e-commerce and the demand for faster and more efficient delivery, there is a need for vehicles that can operate in urban areas without emitting harmful pollutants. Fuel cell trucks offer a solution to this problem, as they are zero-emission vehicles that can be refueled quickly and provide sufficient range for last-mile delivery.

Currently, the infrastructure for hydrogen fueling stations is still in its early stages of development. There are only a limited number of hydrogen fueling stations available, and they are primarily located in certain regions of the world, such as California and Japan. As of September 2021, there were around 70 hydrogen fueling stations in the U.S., and around 180 in Japan. Other countries, such as Germany, the UK, and South Korea, have also started to invest in hydrogen fueling infrastructure, but it is still in the early stages.

The lack of infrastructure for hydrogen fueling stations is a significant problem for the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell trucks for several reasons. Firstly, it limits the range and flexibility of these vehicles. Without a reliable network of hydrogen fueling stations, it can be difficult for truck drivers to plan routes and ensure that they can refuel when needed. This can be particularly problematic for long-haul trucking, which often involves traveling across large distances.

Secondly, the lack of infrastructure can increase the cost of hydrogen fuel for trucks. Without enough hydrogen fueling stations, the cost of producing and distributing hydrogen fuel can be higher than it would be if there were more stations available. This can result in higher prices for consumers, which can make hydrogen fuel cell trucks less attractive compared to other alternatives, such as diesel or electric vehicles.

Also, the lack of infrastructure can slow down the production and deployment of hydrogen fuel cell trucks. Many companies are hesitant to invest in these vehicles until there is a more reliable network of fueling stations in place. This can make it difficult for manufacturers to justify the cost of producing these vehicles at scale, which can slow down the development and deployment of new models. Such things are expected to restrain the growth of hydrogen fuel cell truck market.

China is one of the countries that has been at the forefront of promoting the use of hydrogen fuel cell trucks as a sustainable transportation option. The Chinese government has set ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions and has identified hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including trucks, as a key component of its strategy to achieve these targets. According to a long-term strategy for the development of the nation's hydrogen industry unveiled in March 2022, China plans to have 50,000 fuel cell vehicles on its roads by 2025.

With a goal of having China's carbon dioxide emissions peak before 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2060, President Xi Jinping's plan, which spans through 2035, places hydrogen as a crucial component in the country's energy system. With the help of joint venture between Toyota Motor and Chinese automakers, Chinese businesses have been importing fuel cell technology from abroad.

There are initiatives by the government such as, hydrogen-powered trucks will take to the road in Europe which is possible from the funding from the German government, The initiative is expected to support the rollout of 27 heavy-duty Xcient Fuel Cell trucks by Hyundai to a group of seven German companies. The adoption of hydrogen fuel cell trucks in Germany is expected to increase in the coming years as the country continues to transition towards a low-carbon economy.

The hydrogen fuel cell truck market is segmented on the basis of truck type, range, power output, and region.
