Lawyers come and go from law firms all the time. Law firms break up, break down, and reform regularly. But, it’s nothing like the reborn Wild West it might appear to be. There are ethical, practical, and logistical considerations any time an attorney moves on from one practice to another.
In this program, we discuss all the ins-and-outs of lawyer movement, from both the perspective of the departing lawyer, and that of the firm the attorney is leaving. In the end, it’s always the clients’ choice about which lawyer or law firm to work with; but the big question is about how both sides can communicate with existing clients that they are trying to woo, in a way that is fair and ethical. There are also considerations related to file sharing, marketing, and technology management.
