Prior to COVID-19, outbound trips from Brazil reached 10.75 million trips, with a CAGR of 3.77% from 2015 to 2019. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, outbound trips were hugely impacted and during 2020, the number of such trips reduced to 2.9 million trips and reached 2.18 million trips during 2021. In 2022, the Brazilian tourism sector witnessed a significant recovery from COVID-19 impact with outbound trips from Brazil increasing to 7.37 million trips, a rise of 237.9% (5.19 million trips) compared to 2021 (2.18 million trips). However, this figure is still 31.47% lower than the pre-pandemic levels seen in 2019 (10.75 million trips).

On the other hand, in 2022, Brazilian domestic trips stood at 291.55 million, reaching pre-pandemic level. In overall domestic trips, leisure purpose contributes the majority of the share of domestic trips which was 159.26 million trips. As per the publisher, it is expected that overall domestic trips are expected to reach 411.57 million trips in 2027 with a CAGR of 7.14% from 2022 to 2027.

Leisure is the main reason for travel outside and within Brazil. As per the publisher, it is expected that Brazilian outbound trips will reach pre-pandemic levels in 2023 (11.18 million trips) and to reach 13.40 million trips in 2027. Land is the most preferable mode of the travelling for Brazilian tourists for their domestic travel representing 73.13% (213.22 million trips) of overall domestic trips. This is expected to decrease slightly to 72.89% of the total number of domestic trips, representing 300.00 million trips taken by land in 2027.

Strong demand, higher-value sales, changing parental expectations, growing trends in products and places are anticipated to be the main factors driving the expansion of Brazil's outbound tourism industry.
