The entire cannabis plant, as well as extracts with up to 0.2% THC, were removed from Thailand’s Narcotics Act on 9th June 2022, leading to widespread, virtually unfettered access to cannabis across the country. However, the May 2023 elections led to a new government being installed, with Srettha Thavisin being appointed as the new prime minister in August. Srettha has vowed to end the use of cannabis for recreational purposes and regulate it only for medical purposes within six months.

This report offers detailed analysis of the current regulatory framework in place in Thailand for cannabis, cannabinoids including CBD and hemp. It covers everything from cultivation and processing to finished products, extracts and import/export.

Methodology:

The research is completely independent and original. It is conducted a multilingual legal analysis team, all specialists in this sector, and goes through a rigorous review and editing process before publication. Research draws on multiple sources, including: online and offline resources and data, specialist legal software, extensive databases and report archives, interviews with key stakeholders and government officials, and collaboration with local legal firms and on-the-ground professionals in the jurisdictions covered.
