Tencent remains on top of the thematic screen of the publisher's gaming sector scorecard. It scores 5 out of 5 across six of the 10 themes that matter most in this market, including mobile gaming, social media, ecommerce, esports, game development, and China impact. It scores 4 out of 5 for the artificial intelligence (AI), metaverse, and cloud gaming themes. The only theme in which Tencent does not score well is regulation, but it is far from alone. All gaming companies risk being impacted by regulation on issues like in-app monetization and data privacy.

In 2023, mobile games comprised about 5% of Sony’s games portfolio, but the company plans to raise this to 10% by 2025. Half of its 21 first-party PlayStation Studios games will be on PC and mobile by 2025. With an updated score of 4 out of 5 in the mobile gaming theme, Sony is fifth in the thematic rankings, up from ninth in the previous quarter.
