Soybean is one of the most important legume crops in the world, widely used in many fields such as food, feed, and industrial raw materials. According to their uses and characteristics, soybeans can be divided into four categories: edible soybeans, feed soybeans, oil soybeans and seed soybeans. According to the analyst, in Asian countries, edible soybeans are mainly used to process tofu, soy milk, bean sprouts and other foods. Feed soybeans are mainly used to produce feed, especially as a source of high-quality protein, and are widely used in livestock and poultry and aquaculture. Oil soybeans are mainly used to extract soybean oil.

Global soybean production is highly concentrated, with Brazil, the United States, Argentina and China being the main producers, accounting for more than 80% of the world's total production. These countries not only dominate in terms of production, but also play a key role in global soybean trade.

Brazil is the world's largest soybean producer, with soybean production areas mainly distributed in the Brazilian plateau. The United States is the world's second soybean producer, with soybean cultivation mainly concentrated in the Midwest and the Great Lakes region.

In recent years, the demand for soybeans in Vietnam has continued to grow, mainly due to the rapid development of its domestic animal husbandry and aquaculture industries. According to the analyst, Vietnam's pork, chicken and aquaculture production has increased significantly in the past decade, which has directly driven the demand for animal feed such as soybeans.

Vietnam's soybean cultivation is mainly concentrated in the northern region. However, due to the limited soybean production in Vietnam, it cannot meet the needs of domestic feed processing and breeding industries, so Vietnam needs to import a large number of soybeans. According to the data, Vietnam's soybean imports reached US$1.163 billion in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. With the continued expansion of Vietnam's domestic animal husbandry and aquaculture industries, Vietnam's soybean imports are expected to continue to grow in the next few years.

According to the analyst, the main import sources of Vietnamese soybeans include Brazil, the United States, Canada and other countries. The United States is the largest source of soybean imports for Vietnam, accounting for about 31% of the entire import market. Brazil is second, accounting for about 30% of the entire import market.

According to the analyst, the top three countries for Vietnam's soybean imports from 2021 to 2024 are the United States, Brazil and Singapore, and the companies that export soybeans to Vietnam are mainly trading companies. The main importers of soybeans in Vietnam from 2021 to 2024 include foreign giants and local Vietnamese companies.

Overall, the demand for soybeans in Vietnam is mainly driven by its rapidly developing animal husbandry and aquaculture industries. However, due to the limited domestic soybean production in Vietnam, its soybean supply is highly dependent on imports.

The publisher expects that with the continued growth of Vietnam's economy and the improvement of residents' living standards, Vietnam's soybean imports will continue to rise in the next few years. The analyst recommends that global grain trading companies should conduct research on Vietnamese soybeans and related markets as soon as possible to prepare for entering the Vietnamese market.
