Key Highlights

  • In November 2025, Baselland Transport introduced Tap and Ride, a self-service onboard ticket system featuring contactless payments on its buses. Passengers can select their ticket directly on a touchscreen unit installed in a multifunctional area of the bus. The system supports contactless payments via Visa, Mastercard, or PostFinance debit or credit card for both full-price and reduced tickets. From December 2025, driver sales were discontinued, making ‘Tap and Ride’ the sole method of purchasing tickets onboard.
  • In May 2026, Mastercard, together with Cembra, Cornèrcard, and Viseca, completed a real-world AI-agent transaction, called Agent Pay in Switzerland. The AI agent selected and paid for a barista-experience on Priceless.com based on the user’s input, after they explicitly approved the purchase. Security is ensured through tokenized payment data and Mastercard’s Payment Passkeys, which support authentication without passwords, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
  • In November 2025, Swiss banks launched multi-banking for private customers using the bLink open banking platform operated by SIX, letting users bundle accounts from different banks into one app or, with consent, integrate them into third-party apps. Eight banks and two fintechs initially support the feature, with over 30 banks already offering the required technical Application Programming Interface. Services enabled by multi-banking include aggregated account overviews, spending analytics, and budget planning tools. All data exchange is standardized, secure, and subject to explicit customer consent, ensuring control and privacy. This initiative marks a major milestone towards open finance in Switzerland and sets the groundwork for new innovative financial products.
