The transition to a sustainable digital future requires telecom operators to balance network performance, surging data traffic, and a reduction in environmental impact. Although often perceived as energy-intensive, 5G remains a strategic enabler for transforming the sector. However, it cannot, in isolation, ensure the achievement of climate targets.

This study examines the conditions under which 5G can support the sector’s Net Zero trajectory, while also identifying the additional levers that must be activated to accelerate progress.
