Designed as both a rigorous review textbook and a trusted clinical reference, Review of Sleep Medicine, 5th Edition, edited by Dr. Alon Avidan, provides a comprehensive and structured synthesis of the rapidly evolving field of sleep medicine. Whether the goal is board preparation, fellowship training, or enhancing day-to-day clinical decision-making, this authoritative resource equips clinicians and trainees with the knowledge framework needed to excel.

Organized for efficient learning and high-yield review, the text is divided into two complementary sections: Part One delivers concise yet academically robust review chapters that distill the essential science and clinical principles underlying sleep medicine-from foundational neurobiology and circadian physiology to complex diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Part Two features 24 carefully constructed practice examinations, each accompanied by detailed answer explanations that not only identify the correct response but also illuminate the clinical reasoning, evidence base, and diagnostic logic behind each question.

Written and curated by internationally recognized leaders in sleep medicine, the Fifth Edition reflects a multidisciplinary and globally informed perspective, integrating insights from neurology, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, psychology, internal medicine, pediatrics, and sleep technology.
  • Comprehensive coverage of the entire field of sleep medicine, including epidemiology, neurobiology of sleep and circadian rhythms, pathophysiology of sleep disorders, clinical evaluation, diagnostic testing, treatment strategies, and long-term outcomes
  • Fully updated and expanded content, including advances in pediatric sleep medicine; the intersection of sleep and psychiatric disorders; contemporary approaches to obstructive sleep apnea management; and sleep in systemic medical illness, including a new chapter on COVID-19 and sleep
  • New mini sleep atlas for sleep stage scoring, providing visual reinforcement through polysomnographic tracings, EEG illustrations, and practical scoring examples
  • Hundreds of board-style review questions in an online interactive learning tool, available in both study mode and simulated testing mode
  • Rich visual learning resources, including figures, diagnostic algorithms, polysomnography tracings, actigraphy examples, sleep diaries, tables, and high-yield key points that clarify complex concepts and facilitate rapid review
  • A valuable academic and clinical resource for a wide spectrum of professionals involved in sleep medicine, including sleep medicine fellows, neurologists, pulmonologists, psychiatrists, internists, clinical psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered polysomnographic technologists
  • An enhanced eBook version is included with purchase, providing convenient digital access to the full text, figures, and references, with advanced search capabilities, note-taking and highlighting features, and read-aloud functionality-supporting flexible learning across clinical, academic, and study environments
