The global military wearables market was valued at USD 5.45 billion in 2025. It is estimated at USD 5.94 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach USD 13.18 billion by 2036, growing at a CAGR of 8.3% over the 2026-2036 forecast period. This report assesses the market in depth, covering soldier modernization programs, digital mission command, night vision and mixed-reality technology, soldier power and health monitoring, export controls and interoperability standards, the ecosystem and value chain, pricing, investment and M&A activity, and the competitive landscape.

The study covers electronic and smart devices worn by military personnel to improve situational awareness, communication, lethality, survivability, and readiness. In scope are head-worn devices such as night vision goggles, thermal imagers, and mixed-reality and augmented reality headsets; hearing protection and tactical headsets; body-worn computers and displays for mission command; health trackers worn on the wrist or finger; soldier power hubs and wearable energy sources; navigation sensors; smart clothing; and exoskeletons. Protective items such as body armor and ballistic helmet shells, radios carried by hand or in manpacks, and helmet displays integrated into aircraft are excluded, and wearable batteries count only as part of soldier power management.

Armed forces are now equipping the individual soldier as a node on a digital network, and contract values reflect this: according to Rheinmetall, Germany's procurement office BAAINBw signed a framework contract in February 2025 for the IdZ-ES (Infantry Soldier of the Future - Enhanced System) program worth up to EUR 3.1 billion through 2030, and an April 2026 call-off of EUR 1.04 billion will equip another 8,600 soldiers, taking the Bundeswehr to more than 12,000 individual sets. In the U.S., the Army chose Anduril and Rivet in September 2025 to build Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) prototypes under agreements of USD 159 million and USD 195 million, respectively, according to Army announcements, and L3Harris has shipped over 20,000 units of the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle - Binocular (ENVG-B).

Market Dynamics

Large soldier modernization programs are the main growth driver, as forces combine digital communication, optics, computing, and power into integrated soldier systems; Germany's Bundestag has already approved EUR 1.3 billion for IdZ-ES, and comparable programs are running across NATO and Asia-Pacific. Mission command is being pushed down to the individual soldier through efforts such as SBMC, whose SBMC-A software architecture is built on Anduril's Lattice platform with 14 firms taking part, among them Palantir, L3Harris, Maxar, Sierra Nevada Company, and Persistent Systems. Night vision modernization adds steady demand, with Binocular Night Observation Device (BiNOD) contracts running to 2033 and new ENVG-B delivery orders. European spending is also rising after NATO members agreed in 2025 to a defense spending target of 5% of GDP by 2035, and INVISIO reported its best quarter ever at the end of 2025, with revenue of SEK 684 million.

Weight and ergonomics are the main restraint, since soldiers already carry heavy loads and devices that add bulk or discomfort meet resistance, as the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) showed when soldier complaints about weight, form factor, and nausea led the Army to cut planned IVAS 1.2 procurement from 3,162 systems to zero and redirect funds to SBMC. Each new powered device also adds batteries, weight, and logistics burden, which can shorten mission endurance. Further challenges include the electronic signature of connected wearables, which adversaries can detect, geolocate, and target through electronic warfare, the risk that fitness and location data expose personnel, the difficulty of making devices from many vendors and allies work together, and the cost of fielding advanced equipment to large numbers of troops.

AI-enabled mixed-reality headsets offer the largest opportunity, given that the predecessor IVAS contract, awarded to Microsoft in 2021, was reported to be worth up to USD 22 billion and that an SBMC production decision has been reported as possible in fiscal year 2028. Soldier health and performance monitoring is another opportunity: Oura, a Department of Defense supplier since 2019, has issued tens of thousands of rings to service members and is opening a plant in Fort Worth, Texas, for defense orders. Integrated power and data architectures are a third, as INVISIO's purchase of the UltraLYNX line and Ultralife's record backlog of conformal wearable battery orders show. Key trends include the adaptation of consumer technology, such as Anduril's partnership with Meta on the EagleEye headset, the move from standalone devices to complete soldier systems, and software-defined wearables that receive capability updates over the air.

Segment Analysis

The report analyzes the market by wearable type, technology, component, connectivity, end user, and geography, helping stakeholders identify where soldier equipment budgets are going and which product areas will grow fastest.

By wearable type, the report covers headwear (night vision & thermal systems and mixed-reality headsets), eyewear, hearables (tactical communication headsets and hearing protection), bodywear (smart textiles and power & data vests), wristwear & ringwear, and exoskeletons. Headwear is expected to hold the largest share in 2026, reflecting large orders for helmet-mounted night vision and thermal devices such as ENVG-B and BiNOD, as well as spending on mixed-reality headsets under SBMC. Wristwear & ringwear is expected to grow at the highest CAGR, as health and performance monitors such as smart rings move from trials into wider use across the armed services for fatigue management, fitness, and early illness detection. Hearables also benefit from European demand for communication headsets and hearing protection.

The technology analysis spans vision & surveillance, communication & audio, computing & mission command, health & performance monitoring, power management, navigation & positioning, smart textiles, and mobility augmentation. Vision & surveillance is expected to account for the largest share in 2026, supported by night vision and thermal imaging modernization in the U.S. and allied armies. Computing & mission command is expected to record the highest CAGR, as programs such as SBMC and digitized soldier systems such as IdZ-ES put body-worn computers and displays on more soldiers and link them to command networks. Power management gains importance as the number of powered devices per soldier rises.

By component, the market is divided into hardware, software, and services. Hardware is expected to hold the largest share in 2026, since goggles, headsets, sensors, and batteries account for most procurement value. Software is expected to grow at the highest CAGR, driven by software-defined wearables, AI applications at the tactical edge, and over-the-air capability updates, as seen in Anduril's integration of its Lattice platform at soldier level. Services support fielding, training, and long-term sustainment of these systems.

By connectivity, the market is divided into standalone wearables and networked & integrated soldier systems. Standalone wearables are expected to account for the larger share in 2026, since most night vision devices and headsets already in service operate on their own. Networked & integrated soldier systems are expected to grow at the higher CAGR, as armies connect soldiers to digital command networks such as Germany's D-LBO and buy complete platoon systems rather than single devices.

By end user, the report covers the army, marine corps, special operations forces, navy, and air force. The army is expected to hold the largest share in 2026, driven by infantry modernization and night vision programs that equip large numbers of ground troops. Special operations forces are expected to grow at the highest CAGR, as they adopt advanced mixed-reality, communication, and health monitoring wearables earlier than conventional units and often serve as test users for new equipment.

Regional Analysis

The report covers North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East & Africa, and Latin America, with analysis of 18 countries, the Nordic countries, and four rest-of-region groups. The regional analysis considers soldier modernization programs, defense budgets, night vision and digitization plans, local industry, and export controls in each market.

North America is expected to hold the largest share of the market in 2026, as the U.S. Army is funding night vision on a large scale through BiNOD contracts with L3Harris, Elbit Systems of America, and Photonis Defense and continued ENVG-B production and is developing SBMC as its next soldier-worn mixed-reality system. Health monitoring wearables already in use across the services, along with a deep base of suppliers and technology partners such as Meta, Qualcomm, and Gentex, strengthen the region's lead.

Europe is expected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period, driven by Germany's IdZ-ES program, larger budgets as NATO members move toward the new spending goal, and multi-year deals such as the INVISIO framework signed with the Netherlands' defense ministry. The report covers Germany, the U.K., France, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, and the Nordic countries. Asia-Pacific holds a significant share, supported by soldier programs in India, Japan, Australia, and South Korea and by Chinese domestic efforts, while the Middle East & Africa sees demand from Israel, Türkiye, and the Gulf states and Latin America is led by Brazil.
