The introduction of a “sugar tax” in the country has deepened the decline for carbonates. The tax mandates an increase of EUR0.16 per litre if the drink contains more than 80 grams of sugar, and EUR0.08 cents if lower than 80 grams. The tax resulted in a substantial increase in product prices and it is expected that off-trade volume sales will decrease significantly during the forecast period. Price increases are expected to help support the performance in value terms.
