Increasing health consciousness driving growth
Current growth of soft drinks is mainly attributable to an increasing health consciousness among the German population, with consumers becoming increasingly aware of the importance of sufficient liquid intake. At the same time, the ongoing discussion about obesity, especially among children, led to a declining demand for soft drinks with a high sugar content. As a consequence, the demand for unhealthy carbonates, such as lemonade and orange carbonates is declining. The clear winner of the growing health consciousness is mineral water, as it is a pure and naturally healthy soft drink. Other products that are based on mineral water are also benefiting from the health and wellness trend. In line with the wellness trend, more and more manufacturers are also introducing soft drinks containing functional additives, such as herbs, minerals and vitamins.
