Japan is the largest importer of maize in the world, importing 15,341,785 metric tons in 2016. It imports maize from the United States, Brazil, South Africa, and the Russian Federation. The United States and Brazil are the top two exporters of maize to Japan. Japan bought 12,006,261 metric tons from the United States in 2017 and 2,286,176 metric tons from Brazil in the same year.

Argentina is the Largest Exporter

Argentina is the largest exporter of maize in the world, exporting 24,504,610 metric tons in 2016. The major countries importing maize from Argentina are Vietnam, Algeria, Egypt, and Malaysia. Vietnam accounted for 13.6% of the maize exports of Argentina in 2017.
